The User design (UX) Group of the Sony UX &amp; Software center in San Diego has an opening for an exciting summer internship. We are looking for a creative interaction designer and researcher with a passion for user experience and consumer products. This internship will support user research, analyze data, and propose innovative and user friendly experiences for Sony products. The UX Group is part of a multi-disciplinary team that designs user interfaces for many of Sony’s products including cameras, tablets, and televisions. Our group gathers market and user requirements, creates scenarios, and then develops possible solutions in order to ensure that Sony delivers the consumer the best possible experience. 


This is a full time paid summer internship that will work out of Sony Electronics’ North American Headquarters in San Diego, California. Local candidates are preferred for this position and there is also the possibility of working part-time beyond the summer for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate for this internship is currently studying user-centered design/research and/or rapid prototyping. He or she will be working with our project lead to support user research/design and/or prototyping. 


The position’s responsibilities include:
• Conduct user research to examine and understand user’s needs
• Design user experiments and collect/analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
• Support planning and conducting usability studies to evaluate new and existing products, and making constructive suggestions for change.
• Conduct benchmarking studies of competitor products from a human interface standpoint.
• Coordinate and/or conduct user test, analyze the result and report
• Generate creative ideas and solutions 

• Enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program majoring in Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Computer Interaction, Psychology, or other relevant technical science degrees
• Fall 2012 Junior Class standing and above
• Knowledge and interest in basic interaction design/user-centered design principles
• familiarity with UI industry standards for interface design and user testing methodologies
• experience with statistical analysis of user research
• working knowledge of for visio, word, and powerpoint is required for this position and experience with Adobe creative suites and flash is preferred.
• strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a group
• understanding of different cultures and ethnographic studies is preferred

You will participate in system functionality and performance testing and evaluation and analysis of test results. You will develop and/or modify test and installation scripts. You will participate in the development of system and test documentation and assist in hardware and software product evaluation. This is a full time, paid summer internship opportunity with Sony's US Research Center in San Jose, CA.

* Must be currently enrolled in a Ph.D program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field&lt;?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /&gt;
* Strong understanding of digital image and video processing is required
* Good mathematical modeling and probabilistic analysis background is essential
* Previous research work in related areas such as signal processing, computer vision and computer graphics is preferred
* Familiarity with 3D imaging, pattern recognition and image segmentation is a plus
* Fluency in computer simulation using C/C  and MATLAB is essential
